Mission Statement

The primary objective of the Building Department is to protect the public's safety and welfare as it relates to construction. To ensure that all construction, reconstruction, alterations, repairs, moving or demolition of buildings and / or structures conform to all of the requirements of the Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas State Codes, and the Town of Rehoboth Zoning By-Laws.

The Building Department provides a central location for permit applications (building, electrical, plumbing and gas) to be obtained, filed, and processed as well as scheduling all required inspections. The Building Department is available to answer questions, address concerns, and is a source of general building and zoning information.

It is important that anyone that intends to do any new construction or remodeling contacts the Building Department to ensure that they are in compliance with the various regulations, by-laws, and building code.

 

A Word of Advice from the Building Inspector
Protect Your Investment!!!!!

Always obtain quotes from a minimum of three contractors. Check to make sure the contractors have the necessary licenses, insurance, etc. Have the contractor supply you with a list of references. Check out these references, don't ignore them. They can be an excellent source of information about the contractor. Check with the Better Business Bureau and the Massachusetts Attorney General to see if any complaints have been filed against the contractor in the past. Then make your best decision from the information you collect. If you follow these few steps you may avoid costly delays or problems in the future.

Homeowners pulling their own permits are fully responsible for all work being performed.
