Description of Services
Each town is required by federal law to maintain its own emergency management agency. The Rehoboth Emergency Management Agency (REMA) implements national and state programs and local preparedness to respond to emergencies and disasters. To that end, REMA operates the Rehoboth Rescue Squad, which consists of approximately 25 volunteers who consistently engage in rigorous training under expert instruction. Core areas for the squad include auto/truck extrication, dive team rescues, search & rescue, storm spotting, ice rescues, RACES Ham radio operation, animal rescue, emergency sheltering and lighting, and support to the town's other emergency service entities. All members maintain at minimum Emergency Medical Responder and Professional Rescuer CPR certifications, and complete federal training pertaining to the National Incident Management System via the Department of Homeland Security.
PLANNING & PREPARATION
DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE A PLAN IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY SUCH AS A HOUSE FIRE, HURRICANE, OR FLOOD?
AN EMERGENCY PLAN IS A MUST FOR EVERY HOUSEHOLD. FROM PETS TO CHILDREN AND GRANDPARENTS, EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW THE PLAN. FOR EXAMPLE, HAVE A COMMON MEETING PLACE SHOULD YOUR HOUSEHOLD BE DISPLACED BY A FLOOD OR FIRE.
THE PURPOSE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IS TO PREVENT EMERGENCIES THAT ARE AVOIDABLE AND PREPARE FOR THOSE THAT AREN'T.
