At the meeting of April 19, 2023, a public hearing was conducted and the Personnel Board then voted to approve the proposed changes to the Town's Personnel Policy. These changes have now been officially incorporated in the Personnel Policies of the Town of Rehoboth.

The purpose of the hearing is to consider changes to the Town of Rehoboth Personnel Policies. A hearing is stipulated per Town of Rehoboth Bylaws, chapter 8, section 5. Any person may attend, speak, and provide information.

Two actions are under consideration.

1. Addition of a new section, Chapter 35 Social Media Acceptable Use Policy. The policy concerns how town employees use social media, providing “direction to town employees on the use of social media as a means of communication. This policy is intended to clarify the boundaries between appropriate and inappropriate use of social media....” The full text of this proposed section is provided for review as an attachment.

2. Modification of a number of existing policies by adding new content regarding anti-discrimination. These modifications are proposed to bring Rehoboth’s Personnel policies into compliance with new requirements in Massachusetts General Law Chapter 117, An Act Prohibiting Discrimination Based on Natural and Protective Hairstyles. New language will appear in three different sections of the town’s Personnel Policies: Recruitment and Appointment 11.1 Policy; Grievance Procedure 28.2 (c) Appropriateness; and Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy, 29.3(B)(3) Prohibited Conduct. In addition, a review by the Personnel Board of Chapter 36 Dress Code Policy led to a finding that no changes are required to that chapter.
