The Historical Commission consists of seven members, each appointed for a term of three years. Their main purpose is to preserve the historical heritage of Rehoboth. Over the years they have collected many items of historical interest and compiled several historical pamphlets.
In 1976 as part of the Bicentennial celebration, the commission sponsored an archaeological dig at the site of the Palmer River Meeting House on Lake St. Many artifacts were recovered from the dig and are now on display at the Carpenter Museum.
Their most recent project is the publishing of a "Guide to Historic Sites in Rehoboth, Mass." A booklet featuring pictures and descriptions of twenty three historic sites in the town.
