The Inspector of Building’s office is located at 320 Anawan Street, Rehoboth, MA . The office is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays. The Inspector’s scheduled office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Additionally, the office is open Monday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Inspections are made on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Wednesday is reserved for conferences, administrative duties and commercial/industrial inspections.

Requests for inspection must include your permit number and requires 24-hour notification. Inspections are to be made within two working days after notification. Emergency inspections are made on a 24-hour basis.

In emergency situations, the Building Inspector can be reached through the police dispatcher.

Building permits are required for the following work:
• All new construction of buildings/structures
• Alterations/remodeling and repairs other than general maintenance
• Solid fuel burning stoves
• In ground and above ground pools
• Fireplaces and chimneys

How town inspectors are appointed:


Building and Electrical Wiring Inspectors: These inspectors are appointed annually by the Selectmen. The Inspector of Buildings is the principal enforcing agent of the State Building Code and Zoning By-laws of the town. The Inspector of Electrical Wiring administers the State Electrical Code.

Plumbing and Gas: The Building Inspector appoints the Plumbing Inspector and the Gas Inspector. In Rehoboth these inspectors work on a part-time basis and can be contacted through the Town Office.
